BlueCore - the third generation

CSR launches the third generation of its BlueCore single chip devices.

CSR has launched the third generation of its BlueCore single chip devices and claims the move is a major step in the evolution of Bluetooth silicon.
The first two products in the range address two ends of the Bluetooth market. BlueCore3-Multimedia is aimed at enhanced audio devices, whilst BlueCore3-ROM is a reliable and robust integrated part for power and size conscious applications.

BlueCore3-Multimedia, with a user programmable dsp, enables new consumer applications, BlueCore3-ROM, meanwhile, uses 18% less current compared to previous generations.

During the last two years, CSR has been involved in the development of adaptive frequency hopping. This feature, integrated into Bluetooth v1.2, coordinates the frequency channels that Bluetooth and other 2.4GHz radio devices use so they don't interfere. Because of this, says CSR, BlueCore3 is suited to 'combo' designs, where WiFi and Bluetooth are required to work together.

Glenn Collinson, CSR and cofounder, said: "BlueCore3-Multimedia is a good example of where the market is heading. It enables new applications such as Bluetooth wireless stereo headphones, bringing more functionality and usability to consumers and increased flexibility to oems and designers."
