Power management ic boosts battery life by 20%

Texas Instruments has announced the TPS65090, a single chip, front end power management ic said to increase battery life in tablets and other portable electronics by 20%.

The new module integrates a 4A switching PowerPath charger, three 5A dc/dc step down converters, seven load switches, two always on ldos and a 10 channel a/d converter.

TI claims it reduces board space by 60% compared to a discrete approach, and offers up to 95% efficiency across 8 to 12V output voltages for two to three cells in a series.
