EDA / PCB Design

The world of electronic design automation is broad, covering everything from the simplest PCB to the most complex custom device. But without such tools, designers would be unable to create innovative consumer and industrial products.

In this section, New Electronics provides technical insight on the latest PCB design packages, as well as on the design tools essential to the creation of devices such as FPGAs and ASICs.

Low profile Molex ClipLok interconnect clip

Molex Incorporated has introduced the ClipLok interconnect clip, an electromechanical connection that attaches to secure a membrane switch or FPC tail firmly to a printed circuit board, eliminating the need for mating connectors at each point.

Toshiba develops energy saving flip flop circuit

In a bid to reduce power consumption in mobile equipment, Toshiba has launched a new flip flop circuit using 40nm cmos process. According to the company, the device's power dissipation is up to 77% less than that of a typical conventional flip flop. The company also claims it achieves a 24% reduction in total power consumption when applied to a wireless LAN chip.

CPU for real time and image processing applications

Kontron has introduced the PICMG 1.3 System Host Board PCI-761, a small industrial server board equipped with the Intel Q57 Express chipset. The cpu board has been designed to deliver state of the art server performance with intelligent security features, inexpensive system administration and leading edge I/O technology.

High performance, low power computer on module

The new CM-A510 is based on the advanced Marvell Armada 510 SoC and is said to be ideal for industrial and medical products. According to Anders, the module offers low power consumption, powerful processing capability, and a rich set of media, connectivity and storage features.

Small form factor Pico-ITX motherboard

The LP-171, the latest 100 x 72mm Pico-ITX motherboard from BVM, is said to provide a combination of high performance, low power, 2d, 3d and advanced 3d graphics, high definition video decode and image processing using an integrated Intel GMA 500 graphic system.

6U VPX load board

Elma UK, a designer and manufacturer of high performance backplanes has announced a new 6U VPX load board. The load board helps confirm the chassis meets the VITA 46/48 power specifications for VPX and aids in locating hot spots within the enclosure.

Microchip Microstick development board

Microchip has announced the Microstick for dsPIC33F and PIC24H development board, which it claims provides a low cost solution for designing with Microchip's 16bit PIC24H microcontrollers and dsPIC33F digital signal controllers (DSCs).

PCIe Medical LAN Card

Kontron has announced the PCIe Medical LAN Card, an IEC60601-1 compliant PCIe Gigabit Ethernet card, which can be used for the direct network connection of conventional IT equipment to medical devices.

PEAK 777VL2 single board computer

Industrial computing technology specialist, Nexcom, has launched a new PICMG 1.0 full size single board computer (SBC) which supports Intel 45nm Core 2 Duo/Quad technology and is equipped with the G41 chipset.

SBC supports Intel Atom processors

BVM's latest single board computer for embedded applications, the LP-170, is 100 x 72mm and conforming to the Pico-ITX form factor is designed to enable powerful embedded computing to be implemented in physically small enclosures. This, says BVM, reduces the size of the embedded computer heart of kiosks, media centres, PoS terminals, information points and similar equipment.
