Bluetooth 4.0 module for lighting control apps

A Class 2 embedded Bluetooth 4.0 module from Casambi has been designed for use in LED lighting control, light fixtures and LED bulbs. Called the CBM-002A/B, the device integrates a 32bit ARM Cortex-M4 processor, along with a 2.4GHz Bluetooth Low Energy transceiver and two antenna options. The module is available in two variants: the CBM-002A has a chip antenna; while the CBM-002B comes with a pin antenna.

Cypress’ PSoC 6 BLE Pioneer Kit now available

Cypress Semiconductor has released the PSoC 6 BLE Pioneer Kit and PSoC Creator Integrated Design Environment (IDE) software version 4.2 supporting designers to use the company’s PSoC 6 microcontroller (MCU) when developing IoT applications.

Arduino unveils two new boards to support IoT project development

Arduino has unveiled the Arduino MKR WAN 1300 (LoRa) and the Arduino MKR GSM 1400, two boards that are designed to provide both a practical and cost-effective solution for developers, makers and enterprises, looking to add connectivity to their projects and ease the development of battery-powered IoT edge applications.

Module to speed connected smart object development

Looking to help designers to streamline the prototyping and development of connected smart objects, STMicroelectronics has created the SPBTLE-1S, said to be a ready-to-use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) module that integrates all the components needed to complete the radio subsystem. The module integrates ST’s BlueNRG-1 application-processor SoC and balun, high-frequency oscillators and a chip antenna.

Bluetooth mesh SDK unveiled

Nordic Semiconductor has introduced a software development kit (SDK) which allows engineers to develop Bluetooth mesh based applications. The SDK, which includes the company’s first release of its Bluetooth mesh software stack, is compatible with Nordic’s nRF51 and nRF52 series SoCs and the S110, S130, and S132 SoftDevices.

Antennas work on metal surfaces without de-tuning

A family of antennas from Antenova has been engineered to operate without de-tuning on metal surfaces or where the product housing is mainly metal. According to the company, these situations normally make it difficult for an antenna to operate.

First 2.5 and 5Gbit/s octal Ethernet transceiver

Marvell has announced the Alaska M 88E2180 Gigabit Ethernet transceiver, which it claims to be the first compatible with both the IEEE 802.3bz standard and the NBASE-T AllianceSM specification for 2.5 and 5Gbit/s operation over CAT5e cables.
