16bit MCU range expanded

Epson is shipping samples of the S1C17M2x family of low power 16bit MCUs with on-chip flash. According to the company, the MCU is suited to applications ranging from home appliances to factory automation.

Each device in the family has a clock frequency of 21MHz. The M20, 21 and 22 variants are supplied with 16kbyte of flash and 2kbyte of RAM, while the M23, 24 and 25 feature 32kbyte of flash and 2kbyte of RAM.

The M20, supplied in an SQFN4-24 package with a 4 x 4mm footprint, is said to have fewer pins than any previous Epson MCU, while the M21, which comes in a TQFP12-32 package, has a pin pitch of 0.8mm. Meanwhile, the M22, which comes in a TQFP12-48 package, has a pin pitch of 0.5 mm.

All models are supplied with a range of serial interfaces, an A/D converter, and a choice of timers. In addition, all but the power circuit, oscillator and reset pins can be used for GPIO.
