The fact that it’s a ‘wiggly world’ out there means data converters are an essential part of any system that wants to process information in the digital domain. And there are many systems that take advantage of technology such as digital signal processing to improve their performance.
However, once that processing has taken place, there’s often the need to return data to the ‘real’ world. And that requires digital to analogue conversion. This technique is found in a number of applications, but one of the most demanding is, surprisingly, audio.
