Design and project management tools help keep design cycles short. By Larry Gewax and Chip Depew.

The central cad organization at Dallas Semiconductor recently embarked upon an in depth analysis of its design process with the goal of identifying the changes that would make the biggest difference. Analysis identified design management as the area in which the biggest impact could be made.

By implementing two important changes: employing automated design and project management technology for notification and handoff processes; and adding a system integrator role to the organization, the team working on a recent microcontroller project shaved 25% off the design time.
