Lighting up the industry: EuroLED2010 preview

  • EuroLED2010

EuroLED2010 takes place at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry from 9 to 10 June. Now in its seventh year, the event has established itself as Europe's premier LED event.

This year's event will continue to promote the LED industry, but will focus on developing themes of lighting, intelligent energy and the influencers of the low carbon economy. The exhibition is accompanied by a two day conference, covering themes such as: emerging technologies and barriers to adoption; light engine components and integration; metrology; design and application; and case studies. Expert team
Future Lighting Solutions' approach is built around a team of LED lighting experts, along with highly experienced partners and a worldwide relationship with Philips Lumileds.

The company says it offers four main benefits: solid state lighting expertise; product concept development; complete system solutions; and sustainable supply. A combination of specialised engineers, proprietary simulation and design tools and a large portfolio of integrated and optimised system solutions are said to provide customers with confidence. http://www.futurelightingsolutions.com

Strip light replacement
Light engines enabling replacements for fluorescent strip lighting and a range of high quality architectural lighting solutions will be among the highlights on Marl's stand.

Showcased will be low watt light engines from Citizen. Serving as an energy efficient replacement for fluorescent tubes, these engines offer a 25% boost in efficiency and at least four times longer lifetime. The Citizen CL-824 series can be mounted to form circles, squares and other shapes to deliver directional illumination in a downward cone. An array of five of the chips matches the light output of a 1.2W fluorescent tube whilst providing a more robust lighting solution. Also on show will be the Lighting Science Group's LED architectural lighting products, along with a range of energy efficient LED products from major manufacturers. http://www.leds.co.uk

Technical support
Arrow Electronics says its technologies, development kits and technical support services speed the evolution of traditional lighting designs to solid state alternatives.
The company's range of technologies for lighting applications includes high brightness and lighting class LEDs, LED drivers, lenses and other optics, power supplies and thermal management solutions. Arrow also provides all the on and off board electronic components and interface technologies needed to create a complete design.
For additional support, Arrow offers a range of intermediate and modular technologies including prepopulated pcbs and development kits that help designers to identify the best secondary optics. Additional development tools and starter kits further speed the creation, prototyping and implementation of application-specific lighting products. Visitors to euroLED will also be able to find out more about Arrow's technical support and design in services. http://www.arrowne.com/lighting

Portfolio broadened
Sharp has supplementing its LED lighting portfolio with three white 'high colour rendering' LEDs. The parts have a CRI value of 85, achieved through the combination of blue LEDs with a special blend of green and red phosphorous. Typical applications for the GM2BBxxBM0C series include photography, shop windows, shop lighting and merchandise presentation, as well as medical technology – all of which require high brightness and a compact design. http://www.sharpsme.com
