Analogue specialist Microsemi has bought fpga developer Actel in a $430million cash deal.
"We believe the addition of Actel will deliver compelling synergies to Microsemi," stated James Peterson, Microsemi's president and ceo. "Actel will bring the most widely used mixed signal, radiation tolerant fpga products in the aerospace and defence markets today and the company's products will allow Microsemi to extend its growing system level capabilities."

Actel has signed an agreement to use Cryptography Research's patents and enhance the security of its products against differential power analysis (dpa) and other side channel related attacks.

Actel has launched SmartFusion, which it describes as the world's first intelligent mixed signal fpga. Built on a flash process, the device features Actel's fpga fabric, a complete microcontroller subsystem built around a hard ARM Cortex-M3 processor and a range of programmable analogue blocks.
