Bluetooth pioneer CSR has acquired NordNav Technologies and Cambridge Positioning Systems. The two acquisitions, says the company, will enable it to offer a GPS solution to handset, PND and other portable device manufacturers, with an incremental price of less than $1 when used with CSR’s Bluetooth technology.

Using a software development kit from Cambridge Consultants, US company Sound ID has eliminated the need for a separate microprocessor in its in ear headset. Instead, it exploits the ‘free’ processor that comes as part of CSR’s BlueCore chip to control the overall hearing system.

CSR has launched a pretested and customisable Bluetooth based hands free kit called the RoadRunner Plug-n-Talk. It’s the first in a series of automotive reference designs that CSR intends to release.
