Radar IC enables adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection

A new analogue front end IC has been introduced by Analog Devices. The AD8283 automotive radar IC includes receive path signal conditioning and data capture circuitry to enable end systems for adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection.

The six channel device is AEC-Q100 qualified and operates over the -40 to 105°C temperature range. According to ADI, it allows a radar system to receive a higher number of transmitted signals and decode them for target identification and classification. The device also integrates a 12bit, 80Ms/s a/d converter with 67dB signal to noise ratio and 68dB spurious free dynamic range.

The AD8283 features on chip signal conditioning, including a programmable gain amplifier, low noise amplifier and a programmable, third order, low pass elliptic filter. It is gain programmable via an SPI port in 6dB steps from 16 to 34dB and has <3.5nV/rtHz input. It has 200-O or 200-kO selectable input impedance and consumes 170mW per channel.
