Optimised multicore embedded software solutions

  • embedded software

Embedded software specialist, Green Hills Software has announced the availability of its multicore embedded software solutions for the OCTEON II family of multicore processors from Cavium Networks.

The new OCTEON II IAP processor range is designed to fuel the voice, video and data convergence driven by mobile internet, enterprise and data centre applications that require am increase in intelligent packet processing, secure application delivery and quality-of-service performance.

Green Hills Software's portfolio of software solutions has been optimised to support Cavium's OCTEON II specialised networking and security accelerators. These enhancements are said to provide customers the ability to utilise the processor-specific capabilities in the OCTEON II to achieve what is described as 'the highest performance and throughput possible', while delivering multicore debugging capabilities for the complex applications found in networking and telecom systems.

According to Green Hills Software, the OCTEON II processors, with 8 to 32 MIPS64 cores, deliver up to a 4x performance increase and up to 3x improvement in performance/watt over OCTEON Plus processors.

The suite of multicore solutions will be commercially available following hardware availability from Cavium. Legacy rtos and application porting services are available today.
