MEMS oscillators target industrial and high reliability applications

SiTime has introduced a new MEMS oscillator for industrial and high reliability applications, which it claims outperforms quartz oscillators in every major performance category.

The SiT8920 operates over a temperature range of between -55 and 125°C. SiTime says it consumes half the power of quartz oscillators, is twice as stable, 20 times more reliable and 30 times more robust to shock and vibration.

Piyush Sevalia, the company's executive vice president of marketing, said: "The SiT8920 is a win-win for customers developing industrial and high reliability applications. They benefit from dramatically better robustness and reliability, while simultaneously improving system performance."
