Sponsored by OKW: Stylish and tactile handheld enclosures range extended

Following customer demand, OKW have extended its innovative 'SOFT-CASE' handheld enclosures range with the new size 'XL' series.

Typical applications will include portable instruments, medical devices, mobile data logging and data capture equipment etc.

The ergonomic profile of these 'SOFT-CASE' enclosures is designed to enhance the visual impact and tactile quality of modern high value electronic devices.

Uniquely for handheld enclosures, the design is suitable for wide format displays and keypads. The top of the enclosure has a wide recessed area for locating an LCD or membrane keypad, and a raised panel on the long edge can be used for mounting USB, power or serial connectors and controls.

'SOFT-CASE' enclosures are moulded in off-white or lava grey ABS, or in black infra-red permeable PMMA (UL 94 HB). The three larger size cases are available with battery compartments for fitting 1.5V AAA, 1.5V AA or 9V cells.

With the addition of the 'XL' series there are now four standard sizes with external dimensions ranging from: 82 x 51 x 14mm up to 150 x 92 x 28mm.

Screw pillars are provided in the top and base parts for fitting PCBs, and the cases are assembled by four self-tapping screws.

Accessories include intermediate ring mouldings which increase the internal height. These are offered in the three standard case colours, or chrome plated, or in soft TPE material which provides IP54 sealing. The TPE material also offers bump protection. Prices for the new 'XL' models start at £14.

OKW can supply the 'SOFT-CASES' with additional holes for the push-buttons, connectors and displays etc., plus silk-screen printed legends and logos, and EMC shielding.
