Thinnest embedded capacitor

  • Thinnest embedded capacitor

Murata has introduced the GRU series, said to be the world's thinnest embedded monolithic capacitor for substrates.

Using advanced ceramic technology, the 0402 size device, measuring 1 x 0.5 x 0.15mm, is built into the substrate for placement underneath integrated circuits and other electronics. The GRU series was developed using Murata's dielectric material expertise to achieve a profile of 150µm, with a sophisticated external electrode formation to reduce the component's thickness. Since this capacitor is designed to be mounted within the pcb substrate, it also enhances equipment performance by reducing wiring inductance.
The GRU series is available in capacitance values of 100pF, 1nF and 0.1µF. Other features include a rated voltage of 6.3V dc and X5R dielectric. Copper plated terminations are designed for copper via connection and provide reliable connectivity since they can withstand the build-up process, and the devices have no polarity. The devices are available in embossed tape and reel packaging for automatic placement and are suited to temperatures ranging from -55 to 85°C.
