  • ST-NXP opens for business in Q3

The mobile and wiress joint venture created in April by STMicroelectronics and NXP will be called ST-NXP Wireless. Alan Dutheil, pictured, currently ST’s chief operating officer, will assume the role of chief executive.

“The new name – ST-NXP Wireless – clearly illustrates the joining together of two complementary and formidable forces in the worldwide market to create a new global wireless powerhouse,” said Dutheil. “Our new company will be uniquely positioned to continue and extend customer relationships with the key players in the mobile and wireless industry, leveraging the passion and expertise of what is one of the best pools of talents in the industry.”
The mobile and wireless businesses of ST and NXP generated revenues of $3billion in 2007. ST-NXP Wireless is expected to rank third in the market once the joint venture starts operations in the third quarter of this year.
Dutheil will be joined by Tommi Uhari, currently executive vp and general manager of ST’s Mobile, Multimedia and Communications Group, and by Marc Cetto, currently executive vp and general manager of NXP’s Mobile and Personal Business Unit.
