Speculation grows over Apple’s plans to buy ARM
Apple could be considering a bid to buy Cambridge based technology company ARM Holdings, according to the London Evening Standard.
As a result of the speculation, ARM's shares rose 8.1p and topped the Footsie winners' lists, as over 5million shares changed hands by midday.
The buyout would allow Apple to bring the chip designer's facilities in house – the company is already Apple's biggest customer – and prevent rivals from using ARM's technology. ARM's cpus are incorporated in both the iPad and iPhone.
The Standard values a potential deal to be worth over £5billion.
