SiTime enters smartphone market with first MEMS oscillator

Looking to expand into the rapidly growing mobile market, SiTime has introduced the SiT15xx family of 32kHz MEMS oscillators.

The devices – available in a 1.5 x 0.8mm CSP package - are targeted at applications which require small size and low power, such as smartphones and tablets.

SiTime claims they offer space savings of 85% compared to quartz based devices and reduce power consumption by 50%.

"SiTime's groundbreaking silicon MEMS technology delivers innovative timing solutions that leapfrog decades of quartz industry development," said the company's ceo Rajesh Vashist. "Now, we are bringing these exceptional benefits to the booming mobile market."
