Siemens picks ADI part for ‘smart’ meter

  • Siemens picks ADI part for ‘smart’ meter

Siemens Energy Sector has selected Analog Devices' Blackfin BF531 processor for use in a range of Automated Metering and Information Systems (AMIS).

"Our smart metering solution is the result of many years of research," says Alexander Schenk, business segment manager for AMIS systems at Siemens Energy, Power Distribution Division. "It is Analog Devices' Blackfin that enables us to offer sophisticated measurement and communication at the meter level, enabling a true system wide energy management tool."
According to Analog Devices, AMIS delivers dynamic 'demand response' energy usage communication between the consumer and the energy provider, supporting 'whole grid' energy management.
"(Our) processors are a natural choice for the dynamic and powerful processing needs of today's smart meter," said Colin Duggan, Industrial and Instrumentation Segment manager for Analog Device's GP-DSP Division. "We are especially happy to be a part of the larger solution of true demand and energy management."
