Premier Farnell acquires CadSoft

  • Premier Farnell acquires CadSoft

Premier Farnell has announced the acquisition of CadSoft Computer and its Eagle brand of electronic design engineer CAD software.

The total purchase consists of €7 million paid on completion and potential further payments not exceeding €5 million based on criteria specified in the sale and purchase agreement.

The new product offering will allow Premier Farnell to provide the pcb design solution which is already in use with over 40,000 designers in the US and Europe. It will now be available for the rapidly developing Asian markets.

David Shen, global head of eCommerce and technical marketing of Premier Farnell, said: "The CadSoft Eagle CAD software extends our portfolio and gives us more tools to help our customers in their design process. When viewed in addition to our recent launch of DesignLink, the bridge from CAD tools to our product data and information, and element14, our new online community and resource centre, we are truly offering the EDE support right through the design process."

Harriett Green, pictured, ceo of Premier Farnell, added: "We are excited by the opportunity this acquisition affords us to attract new design engineering customers as we offer them access to industry leading software and our outstanding range of products and support. "The Eagle software will enable us to facilitate design exchange between engineers through element14, our design community, which when combined with our leading edge transactional websites offers customers a complete online solution to their purchasing and design needs".
