NXP to showcase first fully integrated 45nm STB platform

  • NXP to showcase first fully integrated 45nm STB platform

NXP Semiconductors and ARM have announced that they will showcase the NXP PNX847x/8x/9x SoC family based on multiple ARM Cortex processors at CES this week.

NXP says that the range is the world's first fully integrated 45nm set top box (STB) SoC platform incorporating multi channel broadcast receivers. It utilises the ARM Cortex A9 MPCore and ARM Cortex M3 processors and has been designed to enable high performance and energy efficiency.

Christos Lagomichos, executive vice president, business unit home, NXP, said: "With STBs and DVRs getting more and more complicated, power efficiency has been one of the major challenges for the industry. By leveraging low power and high performance processors from ARM, we are able to bring the next generation HD STB and DVR features to our customers."

Based on the ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore processor architecture, the NXP PNX847x/8x/9x is said to deliver 'advanced system level performance' for secure, multi room DVR video streaming on home networks and Java based STB middleware engines.

NXP claims the range can deliver a highly responsive and robust user experience for online VOD and other content delivered via the internet, and features a 3D graphics processing unit to render advanced programming navigation user interfaces, games and other 3D content.

NXP will demonstrate the PNX847x/8x/9x range at the Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas, January 7-10.
