Murata picks up C&D’s power electronics business

C&D Technologies has sold its power electronics division to Murata for $85million cash.

Dr William Bachrach, general manager of the division, commented: “This transaction allows the division to bring a broader range of products to our existing customers, enables a new range of customers for our existing products and will improve our overall global competitiveness. Our combination with Murata provides a powerful platform for the future.” C&D’s power electronics division manufactures dc/dc converters, ac/dc power supplies, magnetics, data acquisition devices and panel meters.
According to C&D’s president and ceo Dr Jeffrey Graves, cash from the sale will be used for balance sheet purposes, as well as to ‘fund important cost reduction programmes’.
