Motion sensors are ‘significant’ development
STMicroelectronics has launched a range of three axis motion sensors and claims the move represents a significant step forward in the product’s miniaturisation. The parts are said to address the space and weight constraints of portable electronic devices.
STMicroelectronics has launched a range of three axis motion sensors and claims the move represents a significant step forward in the product’s miniaturisation. Housed in a 3 x 3 x 0.9mm plastic package, the parts are said to address the space and weight constraints of portable electronic devices.
“The consumer and industrial markets are hungry for flexible and reliable motion sensors that enable novel and friendly user interfaces and features,” claimed Benedetto Vigna, general manager of ST’s MEMS Product Division.
The LIS331 accelerometers are suitable for a range of low g applications in the consumer and industrial markets, including motion user interfaces in mobile and gaming devices, free fall detection and vibration monitoring and compensation.
The LIS331DL has an SPI/I2C digital interface and features such as click and double click recognition, wake up and motion detection and high pass filters.
The analogue output LIS331AL provides individual acceleration values for all three axes. The sensor offers a full scale output range of ±2g, high temperature stability and tight offset tolerances.
