More cores

In a move aimed at helping designers to migrate embedded systems to asics and fpgas, IP licensing specialist IPextreme is adding the Freescale HCS08 8bit microprocessor to its line of industry standard 16 and 32bit microprocessor cores.

The HCS08 is a synthesisable version of Freescale’s 8bit microprocessor which can be integrated into any asic or fpga design. The HCS08 also provides a migration path to Freescale’s 32bit ColdFire architecture. Meanwhile, Freescale’s CodeWarrior integrated development environment allows assembly code for the HCS08 to be retargeted to the 32bit V1 ColdFire.
“The HCS08 has already been used in many market segments, such as consumer, industrial, medical, automotive and low cost networking, said Rick Tomihiro, vice president of marketing for IPextreme. “Providing embedded system designers with a synthesisable version allows them to integrate their designs into asic or fpgas while … maintaining complete software compatibility.”
The HCS08 IP core is object code compatible with currently available Freescale 68HC08 and HCS08 devices, allowing embedded systems based on these processors to be migrated to asics or fpgas.
The HCS08 core will be offered in a complete package of synthesisable source code, integration test bench and complete documentation.
