More battery life from Dialog

  • Power

Battery life in music enabled devices is likely to be extended with the DA9057, an integrated Class G codec developed by Dialog Semiconductor. The part features five on board dc/dc converters and is said to have a 5mW power budget.

Product marketing manager Jason Coughlan said the part is suited to convergence devices. "These need to support multiple radios, Bluetooth, WiFi and maybe fm and gps. There are also a number of charging scenarios and all of these need power management during charge and discharge."

Areas addressed in particular include thermal management during charging, where losses are reduced to 0.5W, and power efficiency during discharge. Coughlan said power efficiency can be doubled by cascading dc/dc converters to an LDO.
