Lithium battery packs for industrial applications

  • lithium ion battery

While popular in consumer applications, the adoption of lithium batteries in low to medium volume industrial applications has been slow, with concerns expressed about a range of factors. Varta Microbattery believes it has solved these problems with the introduction of CellPac LITE, a range of off the shelf battery packs that integrate high density lithium cells, protection circuitry, connections and encapsulation.

Andy Cranke, European distribution manager at VARTA Microbattery, said: "CellPac LITE offers OEMs a portfolio of high density batteries rated for safe use across a wide temperature range and built in a variety of form factors to drop into standard connector sockets."
Each pack includes a protection circuit module, which ensures safe use within the rated temperature range (-20 to 60°C), shutting the battery down automatically outside this range. Some parts also include a discrete NTC temperature sensor.
The portfolio includes parts with cylindrical and prismatic lithium cells, and in encapsulated and non encapsulated variants. With capacities ranging from 150mAh to 4400mAh, the smallest part measures 4 x 20 x 26mm, with the largest measuring 37.6 x 37.6 x 71mm. The packs feature cabling prewired to the battery terminals; some also include standard Molex connectors for direct connection to a pcb socket.
