IP for SoC supply

VCX addresses the SoC supply chain. By Graham Pitcher.

Intellectual property (IP) trading facilitator Virtual Component Exchange (VCX) is adding Cadence Design Systems to its Service Partners Program.
Andy Travers, VCX’ ceo, said: “Engineers need early access to data and tools that will convince them to move further down the decision path with one IP provider versus another. This program marks VCX’s commitment to driving this industry forward.”
Cadence, the first eda company to participate in the program, is providing access to its iArchitectPlatform. According to VCX, iArchitectPlatform helps to increase the productivity of those involved in front end system on chip (SoC) design by allowing designs to be verified as they are created.
VCX has also named Chartered Semiconductor as a preferred mixed signal foundry for VCX partners. Under the agreement, Chartered will offer VCX members mixed signal product design kits and priority access to the Chartered Express program for prototyping mixed signal IP. This, it claims, will ensure a greater probability of first time silicon success when customers use VCX member IP in their designs.
“Mixed signal IP is a key area of growth in the overall IP market and the VCX is excited to be working with Chartered as a manufacturing leader in this area. Not only does Chartered bring a new level of expertise to our listing and procurement systems, but it also provides an expanded channel for existing members and an incentive for other companies to take advantage of the VCX methodology,” said Travers.
Chartered and VCX are setting up a link to streamline the supply chain for designing and manufacturing complex semiconductors. This will allow designers to locate mixed signal IP building blocks for SoC designs and to incorporate them into devices to be made by Chartered. One of the first companies to list mixed signal IP blocks on the VCX TradeFloor under the Chartered agreement will be Californian based Unive.
