Harmful substances addressed online

  • Harmful substances addressed online

A range of measures from Farnell have been introduced to provide access to data regarding substances of very high concern (SVHCs) contained in its products.

SVHCs, that can cause harm to human health and the environment are detailed under REACH regulations with the first candidate list published recently. Under the regulations, suppliers of products that contain substances on the SVHC candidates list in a concentration above 0.1% by weight must provide information downstream including safe us data and, as a minimum the name of the substance.
It is expected that additional chemicals will be added to the list on a regular basis.
Farnell will now provide data and support regarding SVHCs at product line level through a range of measures that will support its website. Users can key in an order code or manufacturer's part online and information on any SVHCs present will be displayed. Safe use information and a safety data sheet will also outline dangerous ingredients and documents their hazards.
Gary Nevison, customer support manager, legislation and environmental affairs said: "The growing amount and complexity of legislation impacting the electronics sector makes it important for suppliers of broad product ranges such as Farnell to provide comprehensive, easily accessible support and data to its customers. Farnell has played a pivotal role in providing information and guidance on legislation since the very early days of RoHS and is continues to openly share its expertise and knowledge with the global electronics industry."
