Freescale enlists Green Hills for next gen ADAS platform

Freescale has announced a multi-year collaboration with Neusoft and Green Hills Software to develop an ADAS ecosystem for automotive vision applications.

Combining hardware and software, the platform is expected to usher in semi-autonomous vehicles as early as 2017 and pave the way for fully automated cars within the next decade.

The plan is to take Freescale's sensors and microcontrollers, developed with its CogniVue APEX Image Cognition Processing hardware, and combine them with Neusoft's ADAS visual software and Green Hills Software's INTEGRITY operating system and MULTI tool chain.

"As ADAS vision systems grow to encompass a greater portion of vehicle braking and steering systems, developers and system designers need turnkey solutions that address stringent protocols for automotive safety, and are compliant with the ISO 26262 functional safety standard," said Freescale in a statement.

"This purpose built ADAS ecosystem is engineered to meet these challenges by streamlining the time-consuming process of developing and porting complex algorithms to target hardware."

Freescale expects to deliver a viable plug and play ADAS platform for car makers to test by the first half of 2015. It should then start appearing in commercial vehicles from 2017.
