  • First 'foolproof' programmable ZigBee module claims Digi

Embedded World has been the launch pad for Digi International's programmable XBee-Pro ZB, which it describes as the first foolproof module of its kind.

According to Digi, customer applications can be programmed directly on the module, eliminating the need for a separate processor.

The wireless software is isolated, so users can develop applications with minimal risk to rf performance and security. The iDigi platform can also be used to to integrate Xbee ZigBee endpoints into systems.

Digi says that a product designed using the programmable device can be updated remotely with new ZigBee profiles, feature updates or security enhancements. It features an 8bit Freescale SO8 microprocessor and offers an outdoor rf line of sight range of up to one mile.

Development kits will be available in April 2010.
