ECIT signs collaboration deal with South Korea

  • ECIT signs collaboration deal with South Korea

The Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT) at Queen's University Belfast is to collaborate with South Korea's largest government funded ICT research centre on a variety of projects in the area of information and data security.

A memorandum of understanding signed with South Korea's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) is said to be potentially £1million per year over four years. The partnership will explore areas ranging from network security and data security to intelligent video analysis.
Collaborative research and development projects will be undertaken by staff at ECIT and at ETRI in South Korea. Other planned activities include joint seminars and the exchange of information, publications and personnel.
ECIT director, Professor John McCanny, said: "The agreement to collaborate with ETRI reflects the quality of our work here at ECIT in a number of key technology areas, all of which have major commercial potential.
"This is a very significant partnership which will ensure that the quality of our research continues to be of the highest international standard. It will provide opportunities to leverage Korean financial investment and it will also allow us to share models for achieving technology transfer and commercialisation."
Seen signing the agreement are, from the left, Queen's University vice chancellor Peter Gregson, ECIT director Professor John McCanny and ETRI senior vice president Dr Myung-Joon Kim.
