Data converter features power controller

  • data converter

The AD5755 data converter from Analog Devices is a multichannel control ic that incorporates four precision 16bit d/a converters with programmable voltage or 4 to 20mA output drivers.

This combination of features and performance is said by the company to support four times more channels than any other integrated converter, while reducing power consumption by 80% and net thermal rise (silicon temperature minus ambient temperature) by 75% compared to other control driver technologies.
"The part is a control ic aimed at the industrial sector," said Brendan Cronin, a marketing manager with Analog Devices. "It brings greater channel density and twice the performance of competitive solutions."
The device also features Dynamic Power Control (DPC), which features ADI's dc/dc switching converter technology. This allow the load impedance to be sensed continually and the required power delivered to the load while minimising power loss in the rest of the system. This reduces self heating and temperature elevation. "And it can sense shorts," Cronin noted, "stepping the voltage down to a safe level."
Available in standard industrial voltage and current output ranges, the device can be used with standard HART protocol modems. Also integrated is a 5ppm/°C internal reference, user accessible offset and gain registers and a 30MHz SPI compatible interface.
