Students can take advantage of IAR Systems’ free embedded workbench development environment for Lego’s robotic building system.

The introduction of a free version of the embedded workbench complier and debugger has been announced at Embedded World 2009. Designed for programming the NXT intelligent brick for Lego’s Mindstorm system, it is an integrated C/C++ development environment. It includes a project manager, editor, build tools and IAR C-Spy debugger tool for use with the Atmel AT91 used in the intelligent brick. Fredrik Medin, IAR Systems’ marketing manager, explained: “This free version of IAR embedded workbench will enable students to have access to leading edge professional development tools with which they can have a lot of fun while they’re learning.” The IAR embedded workbench for Lego Mindstorms can be downloaded from IAR’s website.
