ADC provides power consumption five times lower than competing devices claims Intersil

  • analogue to digital converter

Intersil has announced a range of new 8, 10 and 12bit 500MSPS analogue to digital converters, one of which it claims provides five times lower power consumption than any other on the market.

The 12bit, ISLA112P50IRZ 500MSPS converter, features power consumption of 468milliWatts, according to Intersil the lowest in its class.

The ADC has been developed for broadband communications, radar, light detection and ranging and data acquisition systems and is being built using Intersil's FemtoCharge technology on a standard cmos process. It uses a pair of time-interleaved 250MSPS ADCs to generate its 500MSPS sample rate.

The converter has been designed for applications such as high-end data acquisition systems. Analogue input bandwidth is 1.15GHz, SNR is 65.8dBFS and SFDR is 80dBc for an input frequency of 190MHz. It can be configured using a serial peripheral interface port, which is able to control the interleave correction circuitry, allowing the system to issue continuous calibration commands and configure dynamic parameters.

The device is part of a range of pin-compatible converters that includes the 10bit ISLA110P50 and the 8bit ISLA118P50. All are available in a 72pin QFN package that is 10x10mm which, according to Intersil, is 49 to 77% smaller than competing parts.
