IoT development platform aims to speed product time to market

Cypress and Arrow have announced a development platform designed to help engineers get connected IoT products to market more quickly.

The first Quicksilver kit – featuring Cypress’ WICED platform and its CYW43907 802.11n MCU – includes the WICED Studio SDK and Arduino-compatible headers for expansion capability. Also provided are temperature, humidity and three axis motion sensors, enabling the design of complete IoT edge devices for a range of markets. A second Quicksilver kit, supporting 802.11ac Wi-Fi, will launch in Q4 2017.

“Together, Arrow and Cypress will help customers solve power, range and reliability problems in IoT applications,” said Aiden Mitchell, Arrow’s vice president of IoT global solutions. “Quicksilver allows our customers access to a great development experience.”

Noting that developers are looking for an easy way to add robust Wi-Fi connectivity to their products, Andrew Hunter, senior director of marketing for Cypress’ IoT business unit, added: “Quicksilver brings Wi-Fi connectivity and the power of the WICED Studio SDK to a wide range of customers. We will expand the platform to include 802.11ac high-performance Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, addressing the trend toward integrating both with robust connectivity and multi-protocol coexistence.”
