Seminar: Providing Confidence in Safety Judgements

  • Seminar: Providing Confidence in Safety Judgements

The Safety-Critical Systems Club (SCSC), in conjunction with the Institution of Engineering and Technology/British Computer Society Independent Safety Assurance Working Group, is running a one day seminar on the role of Independent Safety Assessors (ISA). This will be at The Bloomsbury Hotel, London on Thursday 26th November 2009.

The first half will use presentations to look at the challenges facing both the assessor and the client in forming judgements in which both they and others can have confidence. These will cover the ISA Code of Practice and the recently finalised ISA Competence Framework produced by the Working Group, as well as presentations on practical issues relating to standards and the assessment of software. Speakers will include Bev Littlewood of City University, Stuart Nunns of ABB, Peter Hutchison of RPS and Ray Matthews of Frazer Nash.

The event concludes with a participative workshop to identify the practical training and peer review requirements for ISAs to demonstrate competency based on the 'ISA Competence Framework'.

The seminar costs £195 for members of the SCSC, or £290 for non-members, which includes a full year's membership of the SCSC.

An application form is available by clicking here.

Alternatively, email Joan Atkinson or telephone 0191 221 2222.
