IDEA confirms strong European demand for semis

The latest figures from the International Distribution of Electronics Association (IDEA) show demand for semiconductors from European companies continues to grow strongly, with the UK and Ireland making a significant contribution.

Europe demand for semis continues to increase

The European semiconductor industry has reported sales of more than €2billion for the third quarter in a row, according to DMASS. In its latest report, the distribution association notes that sales of semiconductors in Q3 2017 were €2.16bn, 19% more than in the corresponding quarter of 2016.

Anglia distributes Renesas microcontrollers

Anglia Components has extended its relationship with Intersil and will now distribute Renesas’ advanced embedded semiconductor solutions including microcontrollers, mixed signal ICs and system in chip devices in the UK and Ireland.

Stadium Group is continuing to expand its power portfolio, with the latest move being the acquisition of PowerPax UK, which manufactures and distributes power supplies, battery chargers and LED products, including AC/DC switch mode power supplies and DC/DC converters.

Arrow signs global deal to carry Bosch MEMS sensors

Arrow Electronics has signed a global distribution agreement to supply Bosch Sensortec products. The two companies say they will pursue opportunities for inertial, environmental and smart sensors in applications including wearables, smart home, building automation, industry 4.0, domestic robots, toys, augmented and virtual reality and drones.

Silica to distribute Silego’s CMICs

Under a recently signed distribution agreement, Avnet Silica has been named Silego’s sole global distributor and its sole demand creation distributor in the Americas and Europe. The company will also work alongside Silego’s regional distributor network in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China.

Embedded World: an overview

Mouser and Renesas announced a global distribution partnership at Embedded World. Together, the companies will focus on the latest software, development kits and MCUs that comprise the Synergy Platform “We have planned to work closely with Renesas,” said Mark Burr-Lonnon, senior vice president, EMEA and Asia, at Mouser. “But we’ve decided to focus initially on helping to launch the Renesas Synergy Platform.”

European semiconductor distribution market picks up

The European semiconductor industry had a strong final quarter of 2016, according to the distribution association DMASS. According to the organisation, the quarter ended with €1.79billion in sales, 5.8% higher than in Q4 2015. The full year ended with sales of €7.4bn, which represents an increase of 3.8% over 2015.

EU consortium to assist photonics companies

The EPRISE project, ‘Empowering Photonics through Regional Innovation Strategies in Europe’, brings together nine photonics innovation clusters and national photonics platforms from around Europe. The project aims to support companies who use photonics to enter four market sectors: medical technologies; pharmaceuticals; agriculture; and food.

Deal with SparkFun adds maker products to Mouser site

A global distribution agreement between Mouser and SparkFun Electronics brings access to 500 SparkFun products, including SparkFun’s Arduino Pro, RedBoard and LilyPad tools. The move, according to Mouser, will enable industrial and enterprise customers to use maker technology in their advanced projects.
