Will Intel’s rationale to buy McAfee resonate with consumers?
Intel made an audacious entrance into the security software market last week when it announced that it is to buy McAfee for $7.68billion.
The chipmaker's acquisition is its largest so far and will see McAfee's security features incorporated into Intel's semiconductors. According to Intel, hardware enhanced security is the way forward due to the rapid sophistication of threats.
The company claimed the acquisition is part of a larger strategy to deliver an 'outstanding computing experience' - primarily in the fast growing wireless mobility arena. Fair enough. However, convincing consumers that mobile electronics are susceptible to the same threats as computers, could be a little trickier.
