One voice, three million votes

The Future of UK Manufacturing Summit, held last week in London, was the setting for fierce debate amongst representatives from a wide range of sectors.

Attendees agreed five key action points - skills development, addressing UK energy costs, simplified incentives to encourage research and development, a long term commitment from Westminster to rejuvenate the UK's manufacturing base, and a change in culture to make manufacturing more exciting and attractive to students.

Discussing the issues is one thing, getting action on them is another. We know the current Government is looking at manufacturing with a new enthusiasm. But what of future administrations? With manufacturing industry adopting a unified voice, there is every chance that the next Government will have to listen. An election is imminent and UK manufacturing potentially represents 3million votes.
