Engineering Tales

  • Engineering Tales

While studying for my English A' Levels, despite every cell in my body telling me not to, I waited until a week before the exam before embarking on my literary journey through Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.

After two pages, there was a gnarling and gnashing of teeth as it dawned on me I had left it far too late. Nevertheless, the subsequent blind panic, cursing and poring over pages until the early hours, resulted in success. However, I vowed never again, to leave things until the last minute.

With the cut off date for the British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEAs) fast approaching, I would suggest that anyone wishing to enter, does not make the same mistake. The BEEAs could not come at a better time for the industry. Despite, the economic downturn, UK design engineers continue to lead the way in innovation, yet don't always get the recognition they deserve. Not only will the BEEAs identify these unsung heroes, the event will also be a prime opportunity for the industry as a whole to lay bare world class technological advancements in design.

Backed by such industry giants as Richard Noble OBE and Harry Tee CBE, the pedigree of technical expertise on the judging panel is evident. And with categories ranging from Young Design Engineer of the Year and Small Company of the Year to New Product of the Year and the prestigious British Engineering Excellence Grand Prix, every level of the industry is eligible.

So don't 'do a Chaucer'. Get your nominations in before July 31st.
