Fujitsu to sample WiMAX Wave 2 SoC in August 22/05/2007

WiMAX, IEEE802.16e Fujitsu has revealed details of the MB86K21, an IEEE802.16e (WiMAX) SoC said to provide speed and performance improvements over comparable products. Targeted to be the first such device to take part in WiMAX Forum Wave 2 certification, aamples will be available in August 2007.
The SoC, which will be manufactured on a 90nm low leakage process, has achieved a data transfer rate of 18.6Mbit/s in sample installations and lab demonstrations.
Makoto Awaga, general manager of Fujitsu’s Mobile Solutions Division, said: “Our first test chip consumed 240mW at 18.6Mbit/s. We expect the power draw will be far less than 500mW, even at the highest theoretical throughput of 45Mbit/s DL.”
