Blackfin dsp range broadened 12/03/2007

Analog Devices has added the ADSP-BF52x family to its dsp portfolio. The scalable series of processors is optimised for portable applications, including portable media players, VoIP phones, IP cameras and mobile tv.
Consuming as little as 0.16mW/MHz at 250MHz, the processors are said to offer system designers a choice of high performance/low power devices running at 600MHz and an ultra low power series running at up to 400MHz.
“This newest branch on the Blackfin family tree offers the performance associated with high-end media players with the cost structure of MP3 player chipsets,” said John Croteau, general manager of Analog Devices’ Convergent Platforms and Services Group. “The performance, power, and price advantages of the Blackfin BF52x family don’t constrain designs to a narrow feature set. And, as portable media devices become more networked and communicate peer to peer, Lockbox technology helps developers implement DRM and other security measures for e-commerce and social networking applications.”
