Toshiba signs AMBA agreement with ARM 24/01/2007

Toshiba has signed an agreement to use ARM PrimeCell products in its high performance SoCs, as well as the AMBA Designer tool. The company expects the move to simplify its SoC design process, as well as speeding time to market.
“ARM is supplying not just a processor but also peripheral IP essential for SoC products, which holds great attraction in terms of speedy development of future products and getting them to the market,” said Takashi Yoshimori, an SoC design technology executive with Toshiba’s semiconductor operation. “We have been impressed with ARM’s expertise and quality in this field, as well as with the comprehensive support available.”
Meanwhile, Broadcom has entered into a similar deal, licensing the PrimeCell AMBA 3 AXI interconnect technology and AMBA Designer. According to the company, the move will help it optimise system performance across a range of applications.
