Sun sat sends back snaps 03/11/2006

image sensor, satellite The Hinode (formerly Solar-B) satellite, the joint Japan/NASA/PPARC mission that launched on 22 September 2006, has relayed its first observations of the Sun.
Image sensors from UK based e2v have been incorporated into satellite’s scientific instruments and will capture high resolution images during solar atmospheric investigations.
The satellite was renamed Hinode – Japanese for Sunrise. This is said to be appropriate since Hinode will observe at close hand massive solar flares erupting from the Sun’s surface.
