Brighton based specialist distributor Amplicon is branching out into the professional security market, supplying automation hardware and software to system integrators and oems working on applications such as automatic number plate recognition (anpr), IP surveillance, and CCTV.
The new division is part of an ambitious growth strategy set by commercial director Gina Citroni for the company, which underwent an mbo just last year. Citroni believes that the new division, which is to be overseen by David Evans, Amplicon’s data communications product manager, will be able to meet a first year sales target of £1million. Four dedicated sales engineers will be added, for which Amplicon is now recruiting.
The company, which is best known for its experience in industrial pc platforms and networking, has already won one of its largest ever contracts for an anpr system. Citroni put the deal down to the ability to let the customer ‘concentrate on areas they specialise in, and leave the background hardware to us.’
Amplicon has signed an agreement with Taiwanese company ACTi to supply its range of video encoder/decoder and IP camera solutions. Evans believes that ACTI is quite capable of competing with the likes of established players such as Sony, Bosch, IndigoVision: “I really believe they are a rising balloon.”
