Abacus has reorganised its European distribution operation following the acquisition of Deltron and Axess earlier this year. The moves created Europe’s fifth largest electronic component distribution business. Abacus now has a presence in 11 European countries, but its share in some of these – particularly Germany – is lower than the company’s 5% minimum.
The new structure sees the company aligned into five business areas: electronic component distribution; specialist distribution; own brand; manufacturing; and Asia.
Chief executive Martin Kent said: “Abacus Group is in a position to evolve and develop as a business, responding to new customer needs and market trends.”
Whilst electronics component distribution represents the major part of the business, the company has combined the expertise of Trident, Axess and TDC into a specialist distribution group.
Kent expects to grow Abacus’ business largely through organic growth. He plans to open more regional offices in Germany to boost market share in that region, but is also looking to make acquisitions.
