Archos is using a dual core processor based on Texas Instruments’ DaVinci technology to power its latest portable multimedia players, the 404, 504 and 604. The DaVinci based digital media processor offers reduced power consumption and a combination of audio, video, imaging and system control functionality for the portable media player (PMP) market. According to TI, Archos has used this technology to create some of the thinnest, lightest and lowest priced portable video players available.
There are five new Archos products: the 404 and 404 Camcorder provide slim form factors, the 160Gbyte 504 provides extreme capacity, and the 604 and 604 Wi-Fi boast the latest innovations. The Archos 404 and 604 feature bright screens with more than 16million colors.
“TI’s DaVinci technology based media processor enabled us to create innovative products that are responsive and easy to use with excellent DVD quality and video performance across multiple coding standards,” said Henri Crohas, Archos’ founder and chief executive officer.
