The world continues to be driven by the need – almost the demand – to communicate and we’re getting our ‘fix’ through a range of wireless communication options.
The more obvious wireless communications are the ones used in our day to day affairs – the mobile phone and, increasingly, one of the WiFi variants; IEEE802.11a, b or g. But, as the BBC is careful to say when discussing its magazines, other wireless communication methods are available. And there were interesting developments in the Bluetooth, ultrawideband, ZigBee and IEEE802.20 worlds.
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced its intention to work with ultrawide band developers in May 2005. That turned out to be the first of a number of approaches designed to integrate Bluetooth technology into other communications protocols.
According to the SIG, developers have shifted their focus from concentrating on one wireless technology per product to exploring ways to create combined wireless solutions.
