Bluetooth gets a boost 03/11/2005

The total number of consumer products shipping with Bluetooth wireless technology embedded is now estimated to exceed 5million a week. This makes Bluetooth one of the most successful wireless technologies ever. Bluetooth technology had a hesitant start in 2000, when the hype of early Bluetooth Congress meetings suggested that the technology would sweep the world by 2002. Interoperability problems confounded early expectations. Revisions and clarifications to the specification have since been adopted and the teething problems are now firmly in the past. Bluetooth is now established as the preferred short range wireless technology for many consumer products including mobile phones, PDAs and PCs.
Government legislation in Europe and some American states that prohibits driving whilst holding a phone is providing an additional boost to integrating Bluetooth technology into mobile phones. Already many motor manufacturers offer Bluetooth interfaces as factory options in their cars and by 2007 it is estimated that 25million cars will be sold with Bluetooth interfaces.
