Collecting information from distant and widespread sensors can be challenging. Real world applications represent difficult environments and often call for lots of sensors to communicate wirelessly with a central point. This can be painful to implement, both technically and financially.
However, a mix of low power radio tags and a ZigBee wireless ‘backbone’ could solve the problem. ZigBee offers cost effective, standards based wireless networking, with low data rates, low power consumption, security and reliability. By associating ZigBee nodes with multiple, even lower cost and even lower power consumption (but limited functionality) radio tags, a scaleable data collection system can be created cost effectively.
